Twelfth Night
Twelfth night is a successful comedy written by Sir Shakespeare. It would be appropriate to refer it as a typical Shakespearean work. As it includes all the elements which prove so. With abundance of sweetness and and the play being too good to be deemed as an awesome comedy. A very major point in the play is that it has very little satire, and is ludicrous rather than ridiculous. The characters are presented in such a way that we may laugh at them but we can’t hate them. It’s a distinct composition as it has happiness and sorrow as well as downfalls and successes. He has hold on to light quibbles for the positive affect of the drama on the reader or the audience. Laughter is the pivotal characteristic of the play. The Shakespearean fool looks petty well placed on the stage due to the balance it makes, even most characters are laughed at by other characters as well as by the audience. Though Shakespearean comedies do not appeal much to our intellect but it uplifts our heart in rapturous joy. Moreover the writer has chosen a very different and a remote setting for this play that is Illyria which shows the ultimate limits of the writer’s imagination. Here in this comedy we would find the predominance of love, its importance in the lives of us human beings and it’s been presented so magnificently that it creates a good impression on the viewer. William is never pedantic. He is not after preaching a particular lesson or a point. Yet he outlines a few of the faults of that time but is not too harsh in his satire. In short this is a poetic, imaginative and a creative work of Shakespeare which is a huge success.
